A SEMINAR ON THE PREPARATION AND CONDUCT OF ELECTIONS, THE ORGANIZATION OF ELECTORAL PROCESSES BEGAN ITS WORK IN ASHGABAT

A seminar on the topic “Elections and OSCE Commitments” was held at the Garagum Hotel of the capital, which was held for members of the public and the media by the Head of the OSCE Center in Ashgabat, Ambassador John McGregor.

The seminar was attended by representatives of the Mejlis of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan, the Central Commission for Elections and Referendums in Turkmenistan, the Institute of State, Law and Democracy of Turkmenistan, representatives of a number of ministries, departments and public organizations, as well as representatives of the country's media.

Thanking the OSCE Ambassador in Ashgabat for organizing a series of seminars, Deputy Chairman of the Central Commission for Elections and Referendums in Turkmenistan A.Gandymov emphasized that the current meeting is important and will be useful for the representatives of government departments participating in it, will contribute to the exchange of experience in ensuring electoral rights and freedoms of citizens.

Ambassador John McGregor then elaborated on the international legal documents governing the activities and commitments of the OSCE in elections.

At the end of the session, John McGregor said, “it was a great pleasure to have a meeting today dedicated to the election-related commitment of the OSCE. Speaking about the upcoming March 12 elections, I would like to wish them to go well and at a high organizational level. In conclusion, I would like to note that it was a pleasure to meet and talk with people who are connected with this process.”
