THE PRESIDENT OF TURKMENISTAN RECEIVED THE FIRST DEPUTY SECRETARY GENERAL OF THE UNITED NATIONS

On June 6, 2022, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov received the First Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations and Chairperson of the UN Sustainable Development Group, Ms. Amina Mohammed.

Turkmenistan became the first country of the Central Asian region, which was visited by a high-ranking representative of the UN as part of a working trip undertaken to participate in the upcoming Second International High-Level Conference "Water for Sustainable Development" in Tajikistan.

Expressing gratitude for the time devoted to the meeting, the guest conveyed warm greetings from UN Secretary General António Guterres and noted that she was very glad to have the opportunity to visit independent neutral Turkmenistan, which is not only one of the most dynamically developing states on the planet, but also a long-standing, reliable partner of the United Nations Organization in the Central Asian region.

Having cordially greeted Ms. Amina Mohammed, the head of state conveyed his best wishes to the UN leadership. As noted, Turkmenistan attaches particular importance to cooperation with major international organizations, primarily with the UN, which is a time-demanded platform for conducting a productive and effective dialogue on topical issues of our time.

During the meeting, the interlocutors exchanged views on the state and prospects for the development of long-term fruitful cooperation, evidence of the effectiveness of which are dozens of projects implemented in various fields. They also discussed possible areas of joint work within the framework of the Agenda for Sustainable Development for the period up to 2030, which is closely related to the key goals and objectives outlined in the National Program for the socio-economic development of Turkmenistan in 2022-2052.

Ms. Amina Mohammed expressed the deep interest of the organization she represents in further deepening and steadily building up the traditional partnership that meets the interests of the well-being of all mankind and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Saying goodbye, the Head of the Turkmen state and the First Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ms. Amina Mohammed, head of the UN Sustainable Development Group, exchanged mutual good wishes, expressing confidence in the successful continuation of a constructive dialogue built on a long-term and mutually trusting basis.
